Coaching

“We are disabused of our original giftedness in the first half of our lives. Then—if we are awake, aware, and able to admit our loss—we spend the second half trying to recover and reclaim the gift we once possessed.”

~ Parker Palmer, Let Your Life Speak

We come into this world with unique and needed gifts that we share just by being who we are.

But we learn at a young age to analyze and doubt our contributions, to ignore and deny who we are, to strive and override our nature. Eventually we forget what’s ours to give. (I should know. I forgot my gifts for over twenty years.)

As a result, most of us don’t know what function we serve, but like every other living being on this planet, we’re wired to serve one.

Now more than ever, the world needs all our gifts.

How We Find Your Calling

To find our way back to our “original giftedness”—and the joy, meaning, and fulfillment that it brings—we can’t use the same approach that caused us to lose it in the first place.

We can’t analyze, plan, or control our way to what we long for most. Instead, we’re being asked to learn how to listen, trust, and surrender.

Coaching provides a safe space in which to do this.

Working together, we’ll ask big questions and listen for little clues.

We’ll explore questions like:

I’ll help you learn how tap into new sources of intelligence and receive answers in new ways.

I believe it’s important to listen to our inner wisdom and be practical. I have pragmatic activities and exercises to help you explore abstract questions. And we’ll look for practical ways to express your deepest truth in the real world, with all its real limitations.

“I’ve discovered an internal fire that fuels action towards what fulfills me. I have a clearer identity, sense of self, and confidence in what I want. I have more clarity about what’s most important to me. I’m clearer on my purpose and have tools and a methodology to continue to refine it… I’m less anxious, feel calmer, and experience less stress.”

~ K.B.

Working with Challenges

As obstacles arise, we’ll work through them together, listening for what they can teach us.

Obstacles might take the form of:

Each obstacle points to a forgotten aspect of our true nature. Together, we’ll discover the gifts in any that arise.

“It’s now possible to know what I want and trust myself. I have better language, structure, processes, and frameworks for checking in with my Inner Wisdom. I’m so much less likely to be paralyzed by doubt, and I no longer talk myself into things that I know, deep down, I don’t want to do. I have tools to proceed without going down the wrong path.”

~ Kristen B.

How It Works

Coaching consists of two parts: coaching conversations, and explorations or action steps in between sessions. Both are equally important.

In our conversations, we sit together. We ask questions. We listen for responses from our deepest, wisest selves. And we make space for whatever needs to arise—all of the feelings and fears, the hesitations and obstacles.

Over time, mud settles. Clarity emerges. Practical next steps become clear.

The explorations or action steps are a suite of practical exercises and activities that I’ve honed over the last 10 years to help you uncover your superpowers, passion, and purpose and identify the type of work you want to do in the world.

Format:

Virtual, via Zoom or in-person in my home office or tree-filled yard in Decatur, GA

First session:

75 minutes, $245 (includes an Enneagram test)

All subsequent sessions:

45 minutes

1 session: $175/session ($175)
2 sessions: $165/session ($330)
3 sessions: $155/session ($465)

Sessions cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice are refundable.

For a lower rate, you can split the cost with a friend or colleague who does the coaching with you.

Frequency:

Weekly or biweekly (you choose)

Duration:

It’s an organic process, so it’s different for everyone, but it usually takes at least 6 sessions for the self-discovery process, and another 6-10 for brainstorming and exploration.

Sometimes you hear a voice through the door
calling you, as a fish out of water
hears the waves . . .
Come back. Come back.
This turning toward what you deeply love
saves you.

~ Rumi

Could the Magic of Life Be Death?

The Mystery and Magic of Trusting Our Intuition

What do we do when logic and intuition collide? One day several weeks ago, I was perusing my favorite mud puddle for animal tracks when I came across something extremely odd. The mud puddle, which is more like an inland, mini-mudflat that lies next to a small stream...

Land Acknowledgement

My lifelong relationship with the land and waters of my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia is a story of mutual sustenance--the land gives generously and unconditionally to me, and I do my best to give the same in return. I'm beyond grateful to the Mvskoke (Muscogee) people, the original caretakers of this place, and honor their enduring presence, wisdom, and stewardship. I grieve the sustained oppression, violence, broken promises, and inhumane removals that forced them from this land.

As part of my desire for healing and justice, I commit to daily practices that nurture native life, encouraging others to value this land, and protecting it now and in the future. I also actively seek to learn from Indigenous people and support Indigenous-led organizations and initiatives.

You can deepen your relationship with the land where you live by learning about its original caretakers here.

May our actions nurture a culture of care for generations to come.
